The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is the oldest and largest nonprofit in southern Arizona serving pets and the people who love them. In addition to providing shelter for taking in homeless pets and finding them homes, HSSA provides low-cost spay, neuter and vaccination services to help keep the pets of our community healthy. They also have an extensive education and outreach program to teach the importance of humane treatment and proper care of pets. Since 1944, the Humane Society has helped over 1 Million pets in Southern Arizona!
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona is focused on creating and supporting programs that improve the health and well-being of children and their families. When a child is hospitalized away from home, they provide the families with no-cost lodging, home-cooked meals, transportation, and family-friendly entertainment spaces. RMHC recently celebrated its 40th anniversary of providing affordable lodging to families of critically ill or injured children being treated in hospitals.
Habitat for Humanity Tucson works to end poverty housing by creating opportunities for homeownership for low-income families in and around Tucson. Habitat homes are built through partnerships with the local government, foundations, corporations and individuals, then families purchase Habitat homes with an affordable 0% interest mortgage. All proceeds are reinvested in future homes and generations.
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is able to provide four meals to people in need for every dollar donated. In addition to distributing fresh produce and non-perishable food to a vast network of community partners, CFBSA collaborates with local agencies, health institutions and government to revitalize neighborhoods and build a stronger food economy. They also provide nutrition education, offer garden workshops, teach culinary skills, help low-income food entrepreneurs, and work with other local and national organizations to help strengthen our food system.
